Preview & Baking Workflow

The Facet script workflow combines the facade preview and the bake setup in one section on the far end of the script.

1. Material Groups

The Layer panel defines the primary parent layer for your baked facade. Each material group to the right of this panel represents a specific material and its corresponding sublayer.

Each Material Group combines the Sublayer name, the Material Color and the Material Transparency. These colors are automatically assigned to the layers’ render material, allowing for immediate render tests.

2. Baking Geometry

Facet scripts are set up so that Baking the design will update any pre-existing baked geometry, allowing you to incrementally refine your design. You can bake individual parts of the facade or the entire facade.

  • Partial Bake: To update specific components, click the black ‘Push’ button located on the right of each individual material group.
  • Full Bake: To bake the entire facade assembly, use the main Bake button located on the far-right group to which all material outputs are connected.
  • Layer Management: You can add, combine, or remove layers by connecting your geometry to the desired material groups.
    • Important: Ensure every sublayer name is unique. Geometry assigned to layers with identical names will overwrite existing data.

Pro-Tip: Iterate through design options efficiently by modifying your main bake layer name (e.g., Facade_V01, Facade_V02). This allows you to bake and preserve multiple design iterations on separate layers within the same Rhino file.
